When did your love of STEM begin?

Since I was young, I have always been interested in marine sciences. I am lucky to have a family that supports me to follow my passions and aim high!

What did you love most about study in your field of STEM?

I love having the freedom to explore my passions. I am a jellyfish ecologist, so I get to spend time in the field working with wild jellyfish. Sometimes I raise jellyfish in the lab for experiments. Every day is different and new, and I am always able to explore topics that interest me.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in STEM?

Be confident in your abilities! You have a unique perspective that allows you to think in ways that others cannot. Science moves forward by pushing existing boundaries, which by nature, requires that you operate outside the norm. If you feel awkward or unworthy, you're probably doing it right!

“I’m 6 years old here, in my whale shirt, enjoying a beach day in Prince Edward Island. This was my first summer seeing the ocean in person, but I’ve been infatuated with the ocean and its critters for as long as I can remember!”
