What has been your biggest challenge (career or otherwise) and how did you deal with it?
One of my biggest challenges has been navigating depression and finding purpose in my life. I overcame it by turning inward, exploring spiritual and somatic practices, and learning to trust my intuition. This journey led me to create Retreat, making mental wellness more accessible to others who need it.
What made you decide to pursue a career in STEM?
I’ve always been drawn to problem-solving and creating something meaningful. My interest in technology and human behavior led me to explore how digital tools can improve mental wellness. Over time, I realized that blending business, tech, and mindfulness could have a real impact, which ultimately led me to build Retreat.
What advice would you give to future young women in STEM?
Don’t be afraid to take up space and pursue what excites you, even if it doesn’t follow a traditional path. STEM is broad, and there are so many ways to apply your skills in tech, science, business, and beyond. Stay curious, surround yourself with mentors who inspire you, and trust that your unique perspective is valuable.
“Curious, creative, and always asking ‘why?’— long before I knew where that curiosity would take me.”
-Ash
