When did your love of STEM begin?
My love of STEM began from home – my dad, who is also an engineer. As a child I used to dread solving Math problems until my dad started teaching me how to methodically read and understand the problem before solving it and before you know it, Math became fun. Growing up, I would watch him fix all the broken things around the house and feel a great sense of accomplishment. Sitting next to him and working as his helper was like a true apprenticeship. He no doubt shaped my life and my thinking for the better.
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
Being an engineer is fun because I get to bring a product from paper to life. The best part about being an engineer is that you don’t sit at your desk all day. I can be inside my office or out on the plant floor interacting with people. I love the variety and the different problems that need to be solved each day. No two days are the same. I also like that you are constantly challenged and continue to learn new technologies and grow in your field.
What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?
Do it! It is not the easiest path, but it is incredibly rewarding. Gift the world with your ability to innovate. You can literally change the world.
