Meet Mariana Beauvalet

Mariana in an acid suit is during the start-up of a chemical process where she played an active role in commissioning and start-up.

Mariana graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering (Nanotechnology) from University of Waterloo. She currently works as a Research Scientist at DuPont. In her free time, Mariana enjoys salsa dancing and baking cake.

When did your love of STEM begin?

When I was 8 years old, I visited the petrochemical company where my father worked. I was curious about everything, asked a thousand questions and some of the things I learned that day I never forgot.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

As a research scientist, I am constantly learning new things and discovering new information.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

Choose the field that interests you the most, and pursue it with all your heart. Have confidence in your abilities and don't let anyone tell you that you can't succeed in STEM.
